Workplace

Our commitment to promoting and challenging our employees, offering them attractive and secure jobs and supporting their community involvement is a key aspect of a corporate strategy that rests on responsibility.

The RWE Group had 63,439 employees on its payroll at the end of 2007, which was three percent more than the previous year’s figure (62,725 full-time equivalents, not including water).

One of the yardsticks by which we measure the success of our human resources development is employee satisfaction. This is ascertained in our Group-wide employee surveys, the first of which was conducted in the summer of 2005, and the second in the autumn of 2007. The second survey showed that all the subindices of the Group-wide motivation index had improved by between one and three index points, even if the motivation index itself still has potential for improvement. The response rate to the most recent survey was 72.9 percent.

Sharing success

We want our employees to have a share in our economic success and so enable them to buy shares on preferential terms. These shares currently account for approximately two percent of our subscribed capital.

We have also introduced a special bonus system for employees who are not covered by collective bargaining agreements. This awards bonuses on the basis of both personal performance and that of the Group as a whole.

Our human resources development is reviewed regularly to maximise our sustainability. One of the main challenges facing us is that of demographic change. The key issues here are training and personal development, promoting equal opportunities and diversity, and optimising the work-life balance.

HR development

RWE promotes equal opportunities and diversity and does not discriminate against employees or job applicants on grounds of gender, race, nationality, age, religion or sexual orientation.

Diversity

We regard occupational safety as more than just a legal obligation; for us it is part of our responsibility to society and one of our key objectives. As such, it belongs to the remit of every manager in the Group and is subject to continuous improvement.

Occupational safety

Our Group-wide occupational health management system sets out to create healthy working conditions, to make improvements wherever necessary and to promote greater health awareness among employees with the aid of prevention campaigns.
