Limondale BESS Battery Energy Storage System

Project introduction

RWE is in the process of developing a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) near Balranald, New South Wales.

The BESS, and its associated infrastructure, will be located within RWE’s existing 249 MW Limondale Solar Farm site and connect to the grid through existing transmission infrastructure.

The project was recently recognised in the New South Wales competitive tender, offering Long-Term Energy Service Agreements (LTESA) to project developers of long duration storage projects.

The Limondale BESS has a planned installed capacity of 50 MWs for a duration of 8 hours, and is currently in the design and development phase. The BESS would enable excess electricity generated during the day to be used during the evening or early morning, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity sector.

RWE will engage further with the local community as the project progresses.
