Welcome to the age of hydrogen

RWE is actively involved in the development of innovative hydrogen projects. The H₂ molecule is considered to be an important future building block of a successful energy transition. RWE is a partner in over 30 H₂ projects and is working on solutions for decarbonising the industry with associations and corporations like Shell, BASF and OGE. Hydrogen projects are comprehensively supported in the separate Hydrogen department of the subsidiary RWE Generation.

A number of demonstration and testing facilities are under construction or operational at sites in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany. GetH₂ in Lingen is the German flagship of the hydrogen strategy. This is where RWE has given the green light for the development of a nationwide hydrogen infrastructure by constructing a 100 MW electrolysis plant, which involves 40 partners working together. In the United Kingdom, RWE is committed to Pembroke, where a new centre of excellence for hydrogen is commencing operations at the gas-fired power plant of the same name. The major project NorthH₂ on the North Sea coast of the Netherlands aims to use one gigawatt of installed offshore wind energy for green hydrogen production by 2027.
