The Baron Winds Project is a proposed wind farm located in the Towns of Cohocton, Dansville, Fremont, and Wayland within Steuben County, NY. The project’s point of interconnection is the existing Canandaigua substation. Baron Winds is located primarily on agricultural and recreational land. The project will consist of turbines that have tip heights less than 650 feet, roads, and overhead and underground collection and transmission lines throughout the 25,000 acre project area.
UPDATE: The project footprint has recently been changed for the first phase of the project, but will still help New York meet its renewable energy goals while minimizing environmental impacts. Baron Winds’ Phase I will now consist of up to 32 wind turbines and may generate up to 122 MW of energy. A map of the newly updated Phase I layout can be found here.
Baron Winds is subject to New York State’s Article 10 Siting Process and the project will also be required to obtain other state, local and federal permits prior to construction and operation. Additional information on the Article 10 Siting Process can be found by clicking the links on this webpage, and a complete project record, including details of the most recent amendment, can be accessed on the NYS Department of Public Service’s Document and Matter Management System, Case Number 15-F-0122.
