The Baron Winds Project is a wind-powered electric generating facility currently under construction in the Towns of Cohocton, Dansville, Fremont, and Wayland within Steuben County, NY.
Baron Winds LLC proposed to construct the facility in two separate phases (Phase I and Phase II), and approval of this phased approach was granted on April 27, 2020. Baron Winds is located primarily on agricultural and recreational land, and both phases of the project will consist of turbines that have tip heights less than 650 feet, roads, and collection lines throughout the 25,000 acre project area. The project’s point of interconnection is the existing Canandaigua substation.
The Baron Winds Project is subject to New York State’s Article 10 Siting Process and the project will also be required to obtain other state, local and federal permits prior to construction and operation. Additional information on the Article 10 Siting Process can be found by clicking the links on this webpage, and a complete project record can be accessed on the NYS Department of Public Service’s Document and Matter Management System, Case Number 15-F-0122.
Phase I of the Baron Winds Project is currently under construction and will consist of 32 wind turbines in the Towns of Cohocton, Dansville, and Wayland. Phase I may generate up to 122 MW of energy. A map of the Phase I layout can be found here.
Baron Winds LLC has submitted a Petition to Amend its Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need related to Phase II. The Petition for Amendment can be found here.
Official notice of this submission can be found here. (Phase II)
Phase II is now proposed to consist of up to 26 wind turbines in the Town of Fremont, and a map of the proposed layout can be found here.
