Put your energy into launching your career at RWE

Handy hints to help you on your way

Have you seen the perfect RWE job and are now ready to apply? Before you do, read about our recruitment processes so you know what to expect and have a look at some useful hints and tips we’ve put together. Why? Because this will give you the best chance of securing a place at the RWE table!

Application processes will always vary depending on the job you apply for but we’ve put together some of the most used at RWE so you can prepare and put your best foot forward.

Online Application

This is normally the first step in the process where you submit your CV and cover letter (or any other documentation) via our online portal. Once you have submitted your application you will receive an automated confirmation. If you do not receive it, make sure you check your junk or spam folder as it may be there. If you have not received anything, then please contact us.

  • Use the job specification to focus on what is important – you could highlight those sections on your CV or use the cover letter to provide specific examples
  • The CV can be quite long and detailed so use bullet points, tables and other formats to make it clear and concise – and try to keep it to 2 pages!
  • There are lots of free templates on the internet so you don’t have to start from scratch

Some tips:

Telephone Interview

For most of our roles, we will conduct a telephone interview. It is a great way for us to get to know each other and for us both to decide whether we are a good match.

  • Make sure you are ready to answer questions on both the company and the role – there is lots of information on the website but also use other sources to stand out and show that you are up-to-date
  • Try not to be nervous – you could practise answering questions on your phone so you are familiar with the setting
  • Don’t be afraid to ask the interviewer to repeat, rephrase or explain the question if you do not understand it – it shows that you are really keen to understand

Some tips:

Interview

The interview is normally the last stage of the process. In the interview, you can showcase your skills and let us know why you think you are the best person for the role. We will discuss more than just what is on the job specification. We will discuss your potential team and tasks so you can really see if the role is right for you. And of course, if you have any questions, we look forward to answering them!

  • Make sure you know where you need to be and arrive slightly earlier in case you encounter problems with parking or a queue at reception
  • Make sure you are dressed suitably – first impressions can go a long way
  • At the end of the interview make sure you have at least 2 questions to ask us

Some tips:

Assessment Centre

For some roles, we will ask you to take part in an assessment centre. This helps us to assess any strengths and look at your potential for a role. An assessment centre normally comprises of various elements such as a presentation, group task or role play. However, no matter what the structure is, it is important to be genuine and approach tasks in the same way as you would on a normal working day.

  • Make sure you have any necessary documents with you (e.g. presentation handouts, right to work documentation and a copy of your CV)
  • Be yourself – it is important to behave in the same way that you would on a normal working day and not just in a way you think is right for the exercise
  • Use the time to also find out whether RWE is the right fit for you (we’re sure it will be!)

A few more tips to help you succeed:

No matter what process you are in, these 3 tips will always get you off to a great start

  • Show interest – show interest in the company, your interviewers and the tasks. This shows that you really want the job and have the right pro-active traits to succeed. By asking questions and being curious will prove that you have a great attitude but are also keen to improve and drive the company forward
  • Be authentic – We have lots of automation and a great IT infrastructure so it’s important to showcase your personality and show how you can make a difference personally
  • Preparation – this is a key element to success. By being prepared you will be able to answer questions more confidently and are already proving to us your work ethic.

Now that you have a little more understanding – apply now and set you career alight with RWE!
