With the Rea Unificado wind farm in the north-east of Spain, RWE realised its 17th onshore wind farm in the country. The wind farm comprises nine turbines and has a total installed capacity of 43.2 MW. Thus, the project represents both the largest and most powerful of its kind in RWE's Spanish fleet so far. After the commissioning, at the end of 2022 Rea Unificado is now able to supply approximately 30,000 Spanish households with green electricity.
In addition, an innovative technology is used at the site: ‘Soft-Spot® foundations’. RWE used this technology for the first time in this project, setting new standards. So-called reinforced concrete spread foundations, which are placed on a layer of EPS - insulating material made of expanded polystyrene - ensures that the load generated by the wind turbine is distributed over a donut-shaped surface around the turbine. Besides increasing the stability of the turbine, this also significantly reduces the costs and CO2 emissions incurred during the construction phase.
