Modern combined-cycle gas and steam turbine power plant
Little Barford is a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant with a gross capacity up to 750MW. This is sufficient to meet the electricity demands of over half a million households.
The plant has two gas turbines and one steam turbine. In 2012, we invested £100 million in Little Barford to make the plant considerably more efficient and environmentally friendly. Emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) were reduced by 40% and the increased fuel efficiency of the plant will save the equivalent of 118,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) each year.
The power plant began operation in 1996 and is located south of St. Neots on the Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire border on the site of a former coal-fired power plant.
