The Executive Board of RWE AG today outlined to the Supervisory Board the new organisational structure of the RWE Group, due to come into effect no later than 1 April 2008. The aim of the change is to make the Group more focused and to optimise operations at all stages in the value chain by avoiding duplication. This will also make for faster and more efficient decision-making.

Today the supervisory authority of Hessia has approved the restart of block B of our Biblis nuclear power plant. Precondition for the approval was the successful refurbishment of screw anchors and all revision activities. Thereupon the metering and start-up programme which will last several days was initiated.

RWE Power will not build the planned 1,600 MW hard-coal-fired power plant in Ensdorf against the will of the citizens. The CEO of RWE AG, Dr. Jürgen Großmann, said with disappointment: "We truly regret that we are unable to realise this important project in Ensdorf. Our country nevertheless needs new, state-of-the-art and clean power plants in order to stabilise prices, boost competition and help mitigate climate change." Such power plants are of great significance to the entire state of Germany and its attractiveness to industry. Rejecting large-scale projects would result in extending the lifetimes of older plants and in foreign power producers gaining market shares.

RWE will be significantly expanding its renewables activities in the near future. Dr. Juergen Grossmann, CEO of RWE AG, today introduced the head of the new company, Prof. Dr. Fritz Vahrenholt. The new renewables company “RWE Innogy” will start operating on 1 February 2008, RWE intends to invest at least €1 billion per year from 2008 onwards in expanding its renewables activities, which will be subject to the same profitability requirements as other companies of the Group. The company’s growth will be aligned with the policy targets set at European and national level. The company’s headquarters is Essen.

The initial public offering of shares in American Water, which was planned for the end of 2007, will be postponed. In light of the currently unfavourable conditions in the US capital market, RWE does not expect that it can achieve an adequate value for American Water at present.

RWE announces a positive performance for the first nine months of 2007. The Group improved its operating result by 20%, and net income rose by 35% compared to 2006. According to the Group’s forecast, the operating result for fiscal 2007 will rise by 10 to 15% compared with last year’s level.

The German Federal Cartel Office has dropped its case against RWE for alleged unlawful inclusion of CO2 costs in its industrial power pricing. The basis of the agreement is a commitment by RWE to auction off power products from depreciated hard coal and lignite power plants. The form of auction is geared to industrial customers and key accounts (measured on a load factor basis) in Europe and is tailor-made to their needs.

At today's meeting, the Supervisory Board of RWE AG appointed Dr. Jürgen Großmann as Chief Executive Officer of RWE AG, effective 1 October 2007. He will succeed Harry Roels who will resign from his office, effective 30 September 2007.
