Bergkamen joint-venture power plant
The power plant at Bergkamen-Heil is a hard-coal-fired power station jointly operated by RWE Generation SE and STEAG with an installed capacity of 747 MW. In addition, the plant supplies heat to Fernwärmeversorgung Niederrhein GmbH, Dinslaken, who provide district heating for the town of Bergkamen.
Short routes – Favourable water supply
The Bergkamen location offers good conditions for operating a power plant: it has short transport routes for the coal and a favourable water supply from the Datteln-Hamm Canal. In the construction of the power plant, it was ensured that the natural surroundings were preserved as far as possible. The appealing architecture of the facilities and the results of landscaping measures have given the site a modern look.
The power plant was commissioned in autumn 1981. With some 6,000 hours of use, input of approx. 1.4 million tons of hard coal annually goes to generate about 4.2 billion kWh of electricity.
