A strong partner for modern art
The collection housed by the Museum Folkwang is both renowned and wide-ranging and RWE is proud to look back on more than ten years as one of its sponsors.
With the Group’s support the museum managed to bring a major Diane Arbus retrospective to Essen in 2005; this was followed by spectacular projects such as the Atelier van Lieshout’s “City of Slaves” in 2008 or the attention-grabbing photographic exhibition of Paul Graham from England in 2009.
During the Ruhr.2010 European Capital of Culture year, the partners presented the exhibition “A Star is born”, which met with an enthusiastic public reception. “Photography and Rock since the days of Elvis Presley”. From July to October 2010 works by Ron Galella, Annie Leibovitz, David Bailey, Richard Avedon and Anton Corbijn - among others - were displayed. These photographers played a major role in creating the striking images of rock music stars such as Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Chuck Berry or David Bowie. Whether capturing live performances, photographing in the studio, or snapping shots in the back of a taxi - the stars behind the camera recorded and shaped six decades of rock music history.
Since 1999 Museum Folkwang and RWE has realised nearly 30 projects together. This close collaboration looks set to continue in the years to come.
