RWE is keen to put its experience and know-how to good use in developing the French floating offshore wind energy industry in Lorient Agglomération and the Brittany Region.
RWE has a clear ambition to become a global leader in the deployment of floating offshore wind and to safely develop, build and operate cost-competitive, commercial-scale projects across the international portfolio. This innovative technology will unlock new regions for the deployment of large-scale renewable energy projects.
RWE is one of the largest offshore wind developers and operators in the world, having been an early mover in the industry since 2000. This position means we have built market-leading experience and insight and have deep relationships throughout the supply chain. We aim to repeat this success in the floating market by moving early with ambitious global deployment targets, with activity in Europe, Asia and North America. RWE’s experience in deploying seabed-fixed offshore wind, combined with our in-house engineering expertise and global approach means we are particularly well placed to become a leader in floating wind.
RWE has project teams working on floating projects in all the main markets and has already secured a commercial-scale floating wind lease off the California coast. The site is situated 45km offshore in the Humboldt region and has a potential installed capacity of 1.6GW.
RWE is also preparing for floating wind auctions across the international portfolio including France, Norway, Spain and the UK.
