RWE has shown its support during the COVID-19 crisis by signing the C-19 Business Pledge.
The C-19 Business Pledge was founded by former UK Cabinet Minister, Rt Hon. Justine Greening, and UK entrepreneur David Harrison to bring together the power of business to help tackle the Coronavirus pandemic.
The purpose of the C-19 Business Pledge is to encourage businesses to join the Coronavirus effort by pledging to help their employees, customers and communities to get through the crisis. The initiative has already received the backing of employers representing over 900,000 people, staff and students, in businesses and universities.
RWE, supplying over 10% of the UK’s electricity and employing around 2,000 people in the UK, has shown its support, together with innogy SE, by donating just under 50 laptops to the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This will enable the Trust’s clinical and support teams to work remotely and quickly respond to the developing situation.
RWE was also able to send 90 pairs of surplus eye protection and 30 respiratory masks from our operational stations across the UK for use by front line NHS staff.
RWE is looking at ways to contribute funding to organisations in need at this time. RWE Generation UK’s Charity Committee has committed to channeling its donations to support charitable organisations that are supporting people impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
Tom Glover, UK Country Chair of RWE said, “The Coronavirus pandemic affects us all. But I believe difficult times can bring out the best in people and I am incredibly proud of the work our teams are doing to support the community and ensure security of electricity supply in the UK.”
“As a business we also have a social responsibility to support the communities in which we operate. Thanks to all of our people who have supported the initiatives so far. This will continue over the coming weeks.”
The pledge asks businesses for three ways that they can commit and have an immediate and long-lasting impact:
Employees - Action Plans to support staff throughout and beyond this challenging time
Customers - Businesses can join the effort by publishing clear and simple advice for customers
Community - Businesses can join the national effort by committing to help Britain through the Coronavirus epidemic
These objectives are not only about helping the country get through the immediate challenges of Coronavirus; they are also about the recovery. Business has a crucial role to play in helping to rebuild over the medium to long term.
