Andreas leads the Electrical, Instrumentation & Control & Grid Germany team at RWE Renewables Europe & Australia. In this interview, he shares how his team is actively driving the energy transition and why technical expertise and teamwork go hand in hand.

What exactly does your team do?
We are the backbone of grid connections for our wind and solar (PV) parks with battery storage in Germany. We support projects from the very first idea through to commissioning - ensuring that everything connects to the grid safely, efficiently, and with a future-proof approach.
What does your day-to-day work look like?
Our day-to-day is anything but routine: we submit grid connection requests, develop connection concepts, coordinate with grid operators, and support tender processes. As part of interdisciplinary project teams, we take full responsibility for our concepts—from planning and execution to the certification of the parks. In every project phase, we work closely with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines.
What challenges does your job involve?
Grid expansion is progressing more slowly than the energy transition itself -which challenges and drives us. We develop creative, technically advanced connection concepts that are both economically viable and practical to implement. Technical expertise, persuasive skills, and strong communication are essential.
What makes your job special?
Our work has a direct impact on the success of the energy transition. With every project we connect to the grid, we make a personal contribution to a climate-neutral Europe. That’s what motivates us every single day.
Why should someone join your team?
Because here, you’re not just involved - you’re shaping the future. We’re a team that grows together, takes on challenges, and finds solutions. If you’re looking for technical responsibility and real impact, this is the place for you.
