RWE Campus in Essen

Our headquarters in the middle of the lively Ruhr Metropolis

Our Campus

The RWE Campus, our headquarters, is located right where RWE began: More than 125 years ago, we set down roots in the north of Essen. Now a modern, spacious and attractive workplace – and home to almost 3,000 colleagues from the different segments of RWE.

Working at our Campus

During the summer of 2020, we moved into our new campus at RWE Platz in the Altenessen district of Essen. And we’re able to meet the needs of employees and teams alike to work as flexibly and creatively as possible – new room modules, the latest technology and countless options for meeting, sharing and comfort.

When we aren’t strategising and innovating, we can enjoy coffee and lunch at the company restaurant or cafeteria. Places to catch some sun outdoors, our Health Centre for sports and exercise and the day-care centre "Lumiland" for your children.

Working in-person and hybrid has never been better for your work-life balance.

RWE Campus – a Bicycle-Friendly Employer

In the fall of 2022, the RWE Campus in Essen was awarded with the EU-wide "Bicycle-friendly Employer" (information in German) certification in Gold. Lockable bicycle garages, tools and charging facilities for e-bikes were just one of the reasons for the award.

Sara Tsudome, project manager at the ADFC national association, says: "RWE supports employees who use bicycles to get to work with many different measures. This brings many advantages: The employer can thus score points in company health, environmental and mobility management."

Life in the Rhine-Ruhr region

As Germany’s largest metropolitan region, the Rhine-Ruhr region offers so many great options for living and working. Located right in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, this unique region full of art, architecture, nature and culture cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

  • The Rhein-Ruhr region is a metropolitan area comparable to Berlin with much more to discover – the transformation of the region in recent decades has been enormous. Take a train, a car or even a bike and explore 10 cities within the region in a single day. All with their own history, tourist sights, shopping experiences – and, of course, working opportunities.

If you consider relocating, find out more about everything the Rhine-Ruhr region has to offer.

  • The Rhine-Ruhr region’s largest cities include Cologne, Düsseldorf and Dortmund. Its smaller cities are Bochum, Wuppertal, Oberhausen, Duisburg and Mülheim.

Lucky for us, all of them are less than an hour’s drive from the RWE Headquarters in Essen, itself Germany’s ninth largest city and a great place to live, via one of the most advanced motorway networks in Europe.

  • The rapid transit system in the Rhine-Ruhr region is outstanding and run by a single parent company, Verkehrsverbund Rhine-Ruhr (VRR).

The rail, S-Bahn, U-Bahn and multiple bus companies are all connected, meaning you can travel across the region easily and cost effectively. Efficiency, speed and innovation keep things moving, which makes it a great region for commuters.

  • With so many great cities so closely connected, Rhine-Ruhr region residents enjoy excellent shopping, entertainment and nightlife options across the region.

North Rhine-Westphalia is a shopper’s paradise with multiple shopping malls, as well as boutiques and high streets. Culturally, the region has been well-known since the mid-20th Century as a hub of innovative German pop music. Plus, there’s a real culture of gastronomy in the Rhine-Ruhr region – whether you’re looking to enjoy sushi in a skyscraper or currywurst in a renovated smelting factory.
