Oxfordshire, 29. January 2020

The final demolition at the former Didcot A Power station will take place on Sunday 9th February between 7 am and 9 am. The exact timing will be determined on the day by the engineers on site. This final demolition will bring down the Chimney which was the tallest structure on the former power station site.

Health and safety remains our absolute number one priority, and an exclusion zone will be set up around the site to protect ensure everyone's safety.

We are committed to reducing disruption caused by the demolition to the greatest degree possible and are working closely with our specialist contractor, Brown and Mason, to ensure we can achieve this. However, there will be temporary road closures of a section of the A4130 and Milton Road alongside the power station for a short period of time during the morning of the demolition, as this is necessary to ensure the safety of all involved. We’ve contacted any businesses who have premises that fall within the exclusion zone and are working with them to minimise the impact of the demolition.
RWE is again discouraging people from attempting to view the demolition.

Tiernan Foley RWE demolition project manager said, “We would like to thank the local community and staff past and present for their support over the 48 years of operation and demolition. Sunday’s demolition will result in a change to the local skyline and for many, it will mark the end of an era for Didcot and the surrounding area. To mark the long history of Didcot A Power Station, we have commissioned a local artist to create a special piece of artwork that will be available to view at Didcot Civic Hall. This artwork will be formally unveiled to the public at a later date.”

It will take a few more months of clearance work to fully complete the Didcot A demolition. The future of the site has not yet been determined; however, following full clearance it will be ready for new uses.
