Nordsee Ost offshore wind farm, operated by RWE, is located approximately 30 kilometres north of the island of Heligoland. Its 48 wind turbines generate sufficient climate-friendly electricity to supply approximately 320,000 households . This makes Nordsee Ost one of the largest commercial wind energy projects off the German coast. Nordsee Ost wind farm is operated and serviced from the island of Heligoland.
Approximately 50 service technicians, engineers and nautical personnel work here, because unlike onshore wind turbines those out in the open sea cannot be serviced at just any time during the day or night. High waves, wind and weather make our service technicians’ task very complex. Therefore short access routes, local partners and well-structured downstream logistics are essential requirements for operating wind farms of this type economically.
