Floating Offshore Wind in Spain

DemoSATH

In Spain, we are demonstrating the SATH concept, which is a concrete twin-hull barge structure, made of modular, pre-fabricated components. The design has a single point of mooring, which means it aligns itself to the current and wave direction.

The DemoSATH project will use a 2MW turbine and will be assembled in the port of Bilbao in northern Spain. The platform, including the turbine, will be towed to the BiMEP test site, which is 2 miles offshore with a water depth of 85m. Hybrid mooring lines, composed of chains and fibre, anchored to the seabed will hold the unit in position.

The project is expected to go into operation in the third quarter of 2022.
