Application process (in general)

  • You can find all advertised positions on our job portal. If a position is of interest to you, please apply only via our online application platform, which you can access from any job description by clicking on the ‘Apply now’ button.

  • Unfortunately, it is not possible to submit an unsolicited application at RWE, as our recruiting is a decentralised responsibility of the individual RWE operational companies. There is no central office within the Group that can check unsolicited applications and forward them to relevant departments - and also guarantee you a good application process. We hope you will nevertheless find what you are looking for in our job board. Thank you for your understanding.

  • The process takes, depending on the role you would like to apply for, usually between 4-8 weeks and includes the following steps:

    1. Online application

Once you’ve found a suitable position, apply exclusively online using the “Apply now” button in the respective job description. If you have all the documents ready, the application process will only take 3-5 minutes. Immediately after uploading your application, you will receive an automated confirmation of receipt.

    2. Selection / Getting to know

The next steps in the application process depend on the individual position you’ve applied for. Generally you will receive initial feedback from us within two weeks after your application.

Your process may include the following steps:

    • Introductory meeting/ interview with the hiring manager and/ or a colleague from the HR department (virtually, by phone or in person)
    • (Mini-) assessment centre
    • Case study
    • Meeting the team

If you have any questions during the process, please get in touch with the contact named in the job description at any time.

    3. Medical examination

Some roles require a medical examination. You’ll be informed in due course.

    4. Contract

If it suits both parties, we will be happy to make you an offer and send you the contract. Please send it back as soon as possible. The entire process typically takes about 6-8 weeks.

That's just the beginning. Now the real fun starts. Even before you join RWE, we'll start with your pre-boarding. We'll do everything we can to make it as easy as possible for you to join #TeamRWE.

In all of our application processes, it is important to us to get to know you as a person and find out together with you whether we are a good match.

You can view special application processes for your target group here:

  • You can upload files in .doc, .txt, .ppt, .pdf, .tif, .gif, .bmp, .jpg and .html formats.

We prefer PDFs. We regret that file formats not listed here, including .zip files, cannot be processed. The attachments must not exceed a total size of 5 MB.

  • A telephone or virtual interview is a great way to get to know each other and for us both to decide whether we are a good match.

We use Microsoft Teams for our virtual interviews and have had very good experiences with it.

  • At any time, you have the option of tracking your application's status in your candidate profile.

Alternatively, please always feel free to get in touch with the contact person.

General questions

  • The respective work location is always stated in the job description. For some positions, you can choose where you want to work. This is especially the case for positions where the teams work at different (often international) locations.

  • Sure!

We can say that quite clearly. RWE is one of the so-called "systemically important companies". We make sure that the energy supply in Germany and other countries is secure. Because we all need electricity - children and adults alike, small and large companies. Where there is electricity, there is light, heat and communication, there is production, medical care and mobility. Electricity is life.

  • We think it's important to ensure that we all stay healthy and fit. Because that's the only way we can also work together successfully towards a better future. That's why we rely on a strong company health management system that goes far beyond the norm. You have the opportunity to participate in numerous sports and seminar programmes. A great opportunity to have fun, do something for your health and get to know your colleagues better at the same time. Our company medical service provides comprehensive advice and care, both preventively and in the event of illness, and also offers an annual flu vaccination and various advisory services. We always refill your energy tanks - so that we can start together into a sustainable and healthier future.

For example on our RWE campus in Essen (Germany), the Health Center offers sports courses (such as yoga, functional training, personal training), prevention courses (such as back training) and equipment training. There are company sports groups and discounted memberships at Urban Sports and Fit X etc. in the Rhenish lignite area. We have many sport-enthusiastic colleagues who like to spend their break on a run or bike tour together. Showers are of course available on campus. For all other locations, the contact persons will be happy to answer your questions.

  • Hybrid (mobile) working is an essential part of RWE’s work culture and is also handled flexibly wherever possible. Depending on the respective position, it can be arranged with the manager at any time.

  • We'll discuss salary and remuneration during the process of getting to know each other. And your benefits with us? You can find an overview here.

Apprentices

  • We offer various different apprenticeships in the UK. For more details, please have a look at our UK career microsite.

  • There will be variations for each role, but they might involve an application stage, (video) interview, and an assessment centre.

  • We attend various career fairs and actively participate in apprenticeship activities, where you can make important contacts and learn more about our programmes. Our colleagues are happy to give you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look of an apprenticeship at RWE and answer your questions.

  • There will be variations for each role, but typically they’ll include an interview, a presentation exercise, and a group exercise with your fellow applicants. We’ll also provide you with the chance to meet managers to ask questions and assess our suitability for your future career.

  • RWE trains apprentices with a view to a long term role with the company. However, any permanent role after the apprenticeship will require the apprentice to apply for an available position towards the end of the course. There are various opportunities within RWE.

Students

  • The application process takes 4-6 weeks and usually includes the following steps.

    1. Online application

    2. Selection

The next step in the application process is usually a virtual or in person interview with the hiring manager and/or someone from the team. You may be asked to do a short presentation or work on a case study but you’ll be informed in due course.

If you have any questions during the process, please get in touch with the contact named in the job description at any time.

    3. Contract

  • An internship at RWE usually lasts 3-6 months. Longer internships are possible, e.g. during a gap year.

  • The remuneration of an internship depends on the type of internship, i.e. whether you want to do a voluntary or compulsory internship and whether it is an internship as part of your bachelor's or master's degree. • Occasionally, topics for bachelor's or master's theses are also advertised on our job board. Much more often, however, our interns or working students write their work with and for us.
