Sustainability is deeply integrated into RWE’s core business model. The expansion of our renewable generation portfolio is driven by our ambition to be a meaningful contributor to the energy transitions. To reinforce our ambitions, we have incorporated sustainability into our financing instruments. Therefore, we have established our ‘Green Financing Framework 2023’ (preceded by our ‘Green Bond Framework’ 2020).
Our ‘Green Bond Framework’, initially published in 2020, defines the circumstances under which we issue green bonds. In order to keep up with the development of issuance standards and to draw reference to the EU Taxonomy, we have updated the framework in 2023 into a ‘Green Financing Framework’. The update included alignment with the latest ICMA Green Bond Principles and Green Loan Principles. In addition, we have expanded the Green Financing Framework to also cover investments in the storage of electricity, as well as the production and storage of green hydrogen.
