Moving away from home, meeting new people, and stepping into a completely different world – for Liv Russell, the RWE Offshore Apprenticeship has been an adventure full of firsts. Every challenge has brought confidence, connection, and a sense of pride in how far she’s come.
Why did you choose to do your apprenticeship at RWE Offshore?
I chose to do my apprenticeship with RWE because I really loved the aspect of living away from home in Chester as I felt it would be an amazing opportunity to experience life. I also felt that it seemed more hands on allowing me to learn from those around me as well as at college.
How often can you go home?
We can go home twice a month. I think this is the perfect opportunity to prepare us for life working offshore as I will be working 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. It also means we have the chance to be with each other socially at the weekends rather than just at college, furthering our bonds and connections.
Did you bring something from home that’s important to you?
When I moved to Chester, I made sure that I packed my teddy from home as it is something that makes me feel comfortable, especially when living somewhere completely new to me.
What do you like most about the apprenticeship so far?
The thing I like most about the apprenticeship so far is the opportunities it has given me. I have had so many chances to meet new people and do things I haven’t done before such as live away from home, travel on my own and has just given me such a confidence boost.
What advice would you give to applicants?
The advice I would give to applicants it to be confident in yourself and show your willingness to learn, take part and try new things.
