For Freddie, joining RWE Offshore Wind as an Offshore Wind Turbine Technician Apprentice was the first step toward turning his passion for renewable energy into a real career. From his first day at the Grimsby Hub to life on site at Greater Gabbard, he’s found purpose, support, and inspiration in helping shape the future of offshore wind.

Why did you choose to do your apprenticeship at RWE Offshore?
I chose this apprenticeship because of my great interest in renewable energy. The wind sector is an environment that will continue to grow and it’s a future I wanted to be a part of, so I chose to pursue this dream with RWE, as not only are they a front running company, but also offer great support and learning to apprentices.
How often can you go home?
The timetable as an apprentice is fixed Monday-Friday, so this allows us to have free choice with our time Saturday to Sunday every week, this allows me personally to see my family and friends every weekend as I travel far for this highly rewarding apprenticeship.
Did you bring something from home that’s important to you?
Being from Norfolk, one year myself and my dad did a whole season as Norwich City FC fans. After the season, I got one of the matching Norwich shirts we wore that year and had it framed, that shirt now lives with me in my flat!
What do you like most about the apprenticeship so far?
What I like most about the apprenticeship so far is the warm welcome I received from all the members at my respected site, Greater Gabbard. Seeing all the equipment and vessels that would be going to the turbines was one of my favourite parts.
What advice would you give to applicants?
Push yourself, work hard towards your dreams and they become real, instead of seeing this career as one day, work towards making it into day one.
