Whether you’re a business intelligence expert or generalist developer – we have the role for you!
Kitty joined RWE as an IT Placement Student to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment and grow her technical skills. During her placement, she’s already worked in two different teams and now shares her versatile insights into her projects, the supportive team culture – and what helped her settle in during her first weeks.
What is it like working at RWE?
As a placement student at RWE, I’ve found loads of opportunities to expand both my professional and personal skillset. My colleagues are really supportive, and the comfortable working environment allows me to develop my knowledge whilst working on meaningful projects.
Which topics and projects have you worked on so far?
As an IT intern I’ve had the opportunity to work in two different teams during my time at RWE. The first made use of third-party software to create their own platform for accessing data, where I spent a lot of time using APIs to automate tasks for the team. Whilst the second had developed their own app that is used by the company, and being involved in this gave me the chance to contribute to a long-term development project.
How was your experience during the first four weeks at RWE?
The initial unfamiliarity of a professional workplace was quite overwhelming, however I quickly felt welcomed and became a part of the team as they each introduced themselves and the work they do, offering guidance and support that helped me settle in and gain confidence in my role. There is a lot to learn about how the rest of the company works as well, and this understanding develops naturally over time as you gain more exposure in the workplace.
What do you like most about your job as a placement student?
How willing everybody is to help me learn – whether that is about the task I am currently working on or learning more about how different sections of the company work and work with the team. I also like that our team is quite close, so we’re able to go for lunch together and interact outside of the office.
