Sustainable transformation in the Rhenish lignite area, North Rhine-Westphalia

Solar farms along the A44n motorway

RWE is constructing large solar plants along the A44n motorway in the Rhineland. The plants are being built on recultivated land between the municipalities Bedburg and Jüchen. With a total capacity of 86.5 MWp (74.6 MWac), around 141,000 solar modules are expected to supply climate-friendly electricity to approximately 27,700 households from the end of 2025. These projects mark an important step in the structural change and strengthen the sustainable development of the region.

The solar plants along the A44n are not only a model for further projects, but also a symbol of the transition to renewable energy solutions. With this project, RWE is once again demonstrating how former opencast mining sites can be effectively repurposed for the future.
