Essen, 16 July 2025

RWE has appointed Dr Tobias Keitel (46) as the new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) on the Management Board of RWE Offshore Wind GmbH with effect from 15 September 2025. This appointment will enable RWE to place even greater management focus on the successful delivery of the large offshore wind projects currently under construction. Dr Keitel’s future responsibilities at RWE Offshore Wind will comprise engineering, procurement and construction of the wind farms worldwide, as well as HSE (health, safety, environment). Thomas Michel, Chief Operating Officer (COO), will focus entirely on the operation of RWE’s growing offshore wind fleet, which already comprises 19 offshore wind farms. The board around CEO Sven Utermöhlen also includes CFO Gunhild Grieve and Ulf Kerstin as CCO (Chief Commercial Officer).

Markus Krebber, CEO of RWE AG: “In Tobias Keitel, our company has gained a highly experienced manager who will join the board of our offshore wind division as CTO Offshore Wind. He brings with him many years of expertise as a leader in the energy and plant engineering industry, as well as a wealth of international experience. Offshore wind is a key part of the energy transition in many countries and an important cornerstone of RWE’s growth strategy. Together with our partners, we want to unlock the full potential of this technology and create value. I am therefore very much looking forward to working with Tobias Keitel in the future.”

Tobias Keitel, who holds a doctorate in engineering and an MBA, has extensive strategic and technical leadership experience in the energy and plant engineering industry, which makes him ideally qualified to head up the teams of experts at RWE Offshore Wind. He started his career at the consulting firm BCG and, after holding various positions in the industry, joined Voith Hydro, a leading global provider of sustainable hydropower solutions, where he was President and CEO.

RWE is one of the world’s leading companies in offshore wind. The company currently operates 19 offshore wind farms in five countries with a total installed capacity of 6.2 gigawatts (GW) – RWE’s share in these projects amounts to 3.3 GW. Furthermore, RWE currently has four offshore wind projects under construction in four countries: Sofia off the coast of northern England, Thor in Denmark, OranjeWind off the Dutch coast and Nordseecluster north of the island of Juist, Germany. The projects will be completed in the years 2026 to 2028, and will have a combined generation capacity of 4.8 GW, with RWE’s share amounting to 3.1 GW.
