The move from the strategy to the tax department will benefit everyone
The fact that Martin has been accepted for this management position is also due to his current manager and Head of Direct Tax Michaela: “I deliberately chose Martin, who comes from an area that has nothing to do with tax or traditional IT. Yes, it was certainly an unusual decision for the tax sector, but his strengths convinced me. The team is delighted with this enrichment and has supported Martin right from the start. An absolute win-win situation”. And so, in June 2024, a prime example of the impact of our Essential Behaviours and the topic of diversity in #TeamRWE began. With three experienced tax experts and an IT working student, Team Lead Martin is now pursuing the goal of optimising tax processes. One of the ongoing projects is the implementation of RWE's own AI tool DocumentDialogue, which is extensively fed and trained by the tax team with tax literature. Another highlight is the development of a Group-wide data pool for tax, which visualises relevant data in clear dashboards.
“I’m something of a bridge builder and also an interpreter of German tax law in relation to our automation ideas. Internally, we work closely with the accounting teams in the segments or support new hydrogen and wind power projects in terms of trade tax. Externally, we are in close contact with local authorities to optimise trade tax processes. I was recently able to present our results at an event at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Essen and show how 30% of the effort is now saved thanks to automated processes,” says Martin.
