Germany has made the decision as a society to phase out energy production from nuclear power plants by the end of 2022. Until the legally defined shutdown dates, RWE Nuclear GmbH’s nuclear power plants will help to maintain carbon-free security of supply in Germany with the continued operation of our Emsland and Gundremmingen Unit C plants as a flexible partner to renewable energy sources. The highest possible degree of safety remains our top priority.
The regulations for operating the plants remain unchanged. The plants are subject to continuous government supervision based on the necessary licences granted under the Atomic Energy Act and associated regulations. The federal states are responsible for monitoring safety and security of nuclear plants. In most states this responsibility lies with the respective Ministry of the Environment.
