RWE and Deutsche Bahn (German Railways) have signed one of the largest, long-term power purchase agreements for green energy.

Starting in 2024, RWE will provide the Deutsche Bahn (German Rail) trains with renenwable energy from the Amrumbank West offshore wind farm. With its corporate strategy "Strong Rail", Deutsche Bahn (short: DB) wants to reach its goal of providing all electric trains with 100% green energy by 2038. RWE plays a key role in the implementation of this strategy.

RWE Supply & Trading is taking on the role as the contracting and sales partner within the agreement. The electricity is produced at the Amrumbank West wind farm at a fixed price and used directly by Deutsche Bahn.

“We were already supplying Deutsche Bahn with green electricity today. This additional agreement will help our long-standing partner to achieve their ambitious climate protection goals. We are increasingly supplying and shaping green electricity for our industrial customers in Europe.”

Andree Stracke, CEO RWE Supply & Trading
