Goole Fields 1 Wind Farm is officially opened

Today saw the official opening of RWE Innogy UK’s £45million Goole Fields 1 Wind Farm in East Riding of Yorkshire. Over 60 community members and business representatives attended the inauguration hosted by the renewable energy leader, which included a visit to the 16 turbine wind farm.

With a total installed generating capacity of 32.8megawatts (MW), the development has the potential to make an important contribution towards helping tackle climate change, and to securing the UK’s energy supply. Goole Fields Wind Farm could also meet the demands of the equivalent of up to 18,200 average UK households each year1.

As part of the inauguration, guests were able to visit the site, and were given explanations on the workings of the wind farm, the development and construction phases and had a rare chance to take a look inside one of the turbines.

Community members were also given more information about the Goole Fields Wind Farm Community Fund, which is due to go live this autumn. The fund will invest in the region of £1.3million over the operational lifetime of the wind farm.

Tim Daldry, RWE Innogy UK Project Manager for Goole Fields Wind Farm, said: “Goole Fields Wind Farm is testimony to everybody involved, and will create a cleaner energy legacy for the area by generating home grown electricity from the wind for thousands of homes.”
